WHISKERS & WINGS · SPECIALIST REFERRALS

Compassion means knowing when to call a specialist.

Rabbits, squirrels, ducks, and birds have very different care needs. Wildlife especially can be harmed by unnecessary handling, food, or water. Our role is to help people find appropriate licensed wildlife rehabilitators or species-specific rescue professionals and coordinate safe assistance when feasible. We do not offer dog rescue, but we plan to provide verified local dog-rescue resources.

LOCAL RESCUE GUIDANCE

Wildlife and small-animal rescue questions in North Texas

People searching for rabbit rescue in Farmersville, squirrel rescue in McKinney, or injured bird help in Collin County may need a species-specific rescue or licensed wildlife rehabilitator rather than a cat rescue.

I found a squirrel. What should I do?

Keep people and pets away and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance. Avoid feeding, giving water, or handling a wild squirrel unless instructed by a qualified professional.

Can you take an injured rabbit?

Domestic rabbits and wild cottontails have very different needs. Contact a rabbit rescue for a domestic rabbit or a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for a wild rabbit. We may help coordinate a referral when feasible.

What about ducks or backyard birds?

If a bird appears injured or a duckling is separated from its family, seek advice from a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or appropriate animal services. Healthy wildlife should generally be left undisturbed.

Do you rescue dogs?

Whiskers & Wings focuses on cats and kittens and does not operate a dog rescue. We plan to share verified dog rescue organizations and animal-services resources.
